41st National ANAG Golden Alembic Competition

With 78 medals for brandy, grape spirits and grappa arriving from all over Italy, the ANAG national Alambicco d’Oro competition confirms itself as a prestigious showcase for the world of Italian distillation.

The selection of the competing products, which in recent weeks has involved over 60 tasters representing all the ANAG regional delegations, has led to the awarding of 1 Best Gold medal, 42 Gold and 35 Silver go to 5 brandies, 1 grape brandy and 72 grappas. To these are added the two special prizes foreseen by the competition, which were awarded this year both at Sibona distillery: “Best Overall Score”for the 11 medals with the competing products (7 Gold and 4 Silver), and the special prize “The dress of grappa” for the ‘Grappa Riserva Speciale Barolo Millesimata’whose bottle was judged the most beautiful in terms of label and shape by a jury made up of architects and journalists from the food and wine sector.

The distillate confirms itself as Italian excellence from north to south. The regional medal table of the 41st ANAG Alambicco d’Oro national competition sees Piedmont in first place with 36 medals, followed by Trentino with 15 and Alto Adige with 8 awards. Veneto follows, with 5 medals; Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lombardy and Tuscany with 3 awards each; Puglia, with 2 medals, and Lazio, Sardinia and Sicily, with 1 each.

“The national Alembicco d’Oro ANAG competition – states the ANAG national president, Paola Money – has grown year after year and has consolidated itself as an event awaited by the world of Italian distillation. The 2024 edition, number 41, led to the awarding of 78 medals in the various categories, with a high number of awards for aged grappas which consolidate the production and consumption trend. Our competition – adds Soldi – proves to be increasingly attentive to the quality of the products and represents a continuous stimulus for the distilleries and wineries which, thanks to third parties, produce the so-called ‘farm grappas’ with their pomace. I thank the over 60 ANAG tasters who participated in the selection of the national Alambicco d’Oro competition and all the tasters of our association who every day promote, with passion and professionalism, grappa and other excellent spirits by teaching the importance of a tasting aware, attentive to the quality of the products and the social and cultural heritage that characterizes the Italian distillate with specificity from north to south”.

The 41st national Alambicco d’Oro ANAG competition counts on the patronage of the Alessandria and Asti Chamber of Commerce, AssoDistil and the National Consortium for the Protection of Grappa. The results are published on the site anag.it and on ANAG Italia’s social channels.

ANAG, National Association of Grappa and Spirits Tasters aps, is a non-profit social promotion association, founded in 1978 at the Asti Chamber of Commerce, and today active and present throughout Italy. Through training courses, food and wine events, tasting evenings and pairings, ANAG promotes the “culture of good drinking” and enhances an entirely Italian product that brings with it a wealth of traditions and experiences. In fact, Grappa has been recognized since May 1989 as “pomace spirit produced in Italy exclusively from national pomace”. To get to know ANAG closely and always be updated on activities and initiatives dedicated to grappa and spirits, you can consult the site anag.it or follow ANAG Italia on the page Facebook and on the profile Instagram.
