Parghelia is a beautiful town on the outskirts of Tropea, in the heart of the Costa degli Dei, an area where – unfortunately – the long arm of the ‘Ndrangheta and its white collar workers is perfectly visible and never misses an opportunity to make its “power” felt.
A few days ago the former deputy mayor of Parghelia, Francesco Crigna, was even sentenced to 3 years in first instance. But this is not the point or rather, it is not only this. The Municipality of Parghelia, as expected, did not become a civil party in the above process. And “Imponimento” is not even the only trial in which Crigna is involved. The fixer, in fact, is also under investigation in the Costa Pulita trial. And it is hardly necessary to underline that Crigna was and is the first supporter of the current mayor of Parghelia, Antonio Landro, among whose ranks of the majority he seems to have also included one of his closely trusted candidates. So, so as not to miss anything… and not leave anything to chance.
Obviously, Mayor Landro does not comment on the failure to constitute a civil party in the Municipality of Parghelia and is also careful not to explain what the real reasons are that pushed him to pretend nothing happened. And he doesn’t need a “scientist” to understand what they are.
And it certainly doesn’t end here. The Calabria Region had allocated 300 thousand euros to assign to the Municipality of Parghelia an asset confiscated from organized crime and had even sent a 30% advance equal to 90,000 euros urging the mayor to proceed with the assignment of the work.
Well, Mayor Landro, with unprecedented nerve, in the city council meeting of 3 June last, declared – as per the minutes – that the Calabria Region had instead communicated to him verbally that the work was not worth doing… But it was only a shameful lie. In fact, the protocols of the Calabria Region say something completely different, as demonstrated by one of the many protocols, number 5428 dated 09-10-2018 from the sector manager, Dr. Giovanna Melania Grasso, who requested the implementation of the intervention.
Not to mention resolution no. 357 of 12-17-2021 in which the object is even the liquidation of the engineer. Filippo Valia for the definitive, executive project and coordination of security in the design phase for the deed of transaction of the recovery works of properties confiscated from organized crime in the Costa dei Monaci area of Parghelia to be used as a day center for youth aggregation with annex video surveillance system. In short, it is precisely the property confiscated from the ‘Ndrangheta that Mayor Landro is careful not to use. Yet, the engineer received compensation of around 10 thousand euros for drafting the projects… and the citizens pay for this money spent on projects. The ineffable mayor Landro, also seeing the minutes of the city council held on 3 June 2024, in which there are truly embarrassing as well as false statements… how does he justify himself?
Is your majority aware of these situations, given that even today none of them have wanted to open their mouths about these situations?
And what can we say about the area seized in February, where not even the opposition group was able to obtain information, which is very serious, and for which it is said in the village that the mayor Landro, an employee and the head of the ‘technical office? We sincerely hope that the Vibo Valentia prosecutor’s office will do its duty and that the spotlight will finally turn on – as happened for Tropea and many other municipalities in the Vibo Valentia area – also for the Municipality of Parghelia.
