The mayor Linda Colombo sent a letter to the prefect of Milan Claudio Sgaraglia to ask for “greater supervision over the nomadic camps present in the territory of the Metropolitan City of Milan” and to reiterate the need to implement “concrete policies to prevent these places from turning into dens of illegality”. The request is motivated by some news events that occurred in Bareggio.

In recent days, local police officers arrested two nomadic girls aged 12 and 19 who had just committed a robbery in a house in via Turati and were looking for other houses in which to attack. The police had been alerted by a town that had seen the two young thieves wandering around in a suspicious manner and ringing the house phones.

Upon seeing the patrol, the criminals tried to get rid of the jewels they had just stolen by throwing them into a garden, but they were promptly recovered by the officers. The women were taken to the headquarters where the tool for forcing the doors they had with them was also seized. Both without documents, they were accompanied to the police station for identification.

Subsequently, the minor was reported to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Juvenile Court while the 19-year-old, with multiple criminal convictions, who had just been released from prison by the Court of Monza because she was pregnant, was reported at large to the Milan Prosecutor’s Office for theft from a home and possession of burglary tools.

Both women live in a nomad camp in Baranzate. A few days earlier the same officers had stopped a thief who, together with another accomplice, had stolen precious objects from an elderly woman’s house.

In this case the nomads had taken advantage of the moment in which the caregiver had gone out to go shopping to enter the woman’s house, posing as acquaintances. making themselves available to carry out household chores.

The women were forced to flee when the old woman’s son showed up at the house. “I also sent the same letter sent to the Prefect to the mayors of the municipalities where the nomad camps are located, and specifically to Vermezzo con Zelo and Baranzate, so that there is also greater supervision on their part over these areas, so that are abandoned and are turning into dens of illegality”, said Mayor Colombo.
