With a combative and participatory garrison, Rome responded to the barbarity of the workplace murder of Satnam Singh in Latina and of eighteen-year-old Pierpaolo Bodini in Lodi. Over 100 people brought conscious anger and precise requests, under the windows of Minister Calderone, on the afternoon of Friday 21st. Students of OSA and Cambiare Rotta, who launched the appeal immediately picked up by the USB, by the CEING (Legal Initiative Center Abd-El-Salam), from Power to the People, but also many who felt the importance of being there.
The delegation that was received by Minister Calderone’s cabinet reiterated how these deaths are the result of a production structure that feeds on precariousness, with laws against migrant workers, with the procurement and subcontracting system, both in the public sector and in the private sector, in small businesses and in the supply chains of large companies, not least the agro-industry supply chain.
In this system, the master force imposes its model, strong in contracts and regulations, one of which is the multi-service contract, the cooperative system, but also and above all undeclared work, which puts workers under blackmail.
The delegation then reiterated the request that the government retrace its steps regarding the procurement system, the Biagi law, that together with the introduction of the crime of murder and serious injury in the workplace, emergency legislation be introduced so that through Article 28 the RSU and RLS can immediately protect workers. The inspection and prevention system must be further increased, strengthened and enabled to coordinate.
The delegation focused on the issue of the life and work of migrants, labourers, porters, carers and workers, lives and work that need full protection: no more wars on migrants, we must dismantle the Bossi Fini and the Cutro Decree, the murder by Satnam Singh is not a coincidence but the fruit of this context.
The demonstration concluded by meeting on June 25th in Latina together with the laborers and the Indian community to remember Satnam on a day of fight against racism and exploitation of workers.
On Tuesday in Latina we will be alongside the Indian workers and alongside all the Italian, migrant, young, regular and irregular workers who every day sacrifice their lives, their health, their dignity for unscrupulous bosses who violate any respect for rules and laws.
The daily massacre that occurs in our country is now the indicator of an economic and social system that does not work and that is condemning the majority of the population to a gradual, constant and irreversible impoverishment, with an increase in risks to health and social security. .
It is time for the working class in all its complexity to stand together to keep the dignity of work high.
