The journey into the design of Golden Compass started from Gio Ponti and today, 70 years later, it is ideally reunited with its creator. The 2024 awards were awarded in the presence of the president of Lombardy region Attilio Fontana and the mayor of Milan Beppe Salawith Luciano Galimbertipresident of Adi e Umberto Cabinipresident of Adi Foundation Compasso d’Oro Collection. On this occasion, a novelty was presented which marks an important step in the development of the award, namely an international edition in partnership with the General Commissariat for Italy in Expo 2025 Osaka.

This year the central theme of the International Exhibition was therefore developed through design: “Designing the future society for our lives”. And it is towards an ever greater broadening of the field that recognition has been looking in recent years, demonstrating the involvement of different areas and services to people, as well as products, with an approach that is confirmed as “human centric”.

This year’s awards went to 20 objects, in addition to the Compassi d’Oro for lifetime achievement, awarded to nine Italian and two international personalities, and to 3 long-selling products. In addition to the prizes, 39 honorable mentions were awarded (in which design realities such as B&B Italy, UniFor, Edra, Saviors, La Cividina, Flos, Kartell, Alps but also protagonists of culture and luxury such as Carla Fendi Foundation And Luxottica group) and special license plates.

The big names of the evening were, among others, those of the architect and curator of the Architecture&Design area of ​​the Mom and the XXII Milan Triennial Paola Antonellithe managers Roberto Gavazzi of the group Boffi|De Padova And Umberto Cassina Of Mdf Italythe architect Piero Lissonithe businessman Maurizio RivaCEO of Riva 1920the architect Paolo Rizzattobut also the Japanese starchitect Tadao Ando and the stylist Rei Kawakubo for the questions she has asked herself in her career about the culture of dressing, inserting design principles into a sector traditionally linked to style. It was the winner in the long seller category Gio Ponti with his Superleggera produced by Cassina, Blu Ponti Collection Francesco De Maio ceramic and the D.154.2 armchair by Molteni&C. The list of annual awards confirmed the visionary spirit of some objects, such as the Anima lamp by Davide Groppi And Giorgio Rava (designed for the brand of the same name Davide Groppi), but also the Costume sofa by Magisdrawn by Stefan Diezthe Za:Za sofa by Zanotta on design by Zaven and the Farfallina session by Álvaro Siza For Acorn shop. Together with furnishing objects, the Ferrari Purosangue, the first four-wheeled, four-seater car from the Prancing Horse team and the SP 110 yacht from Saint Lawrencewhose exterior was designed by Zuccon international project and the interior by Lissoni & partners.

«The Compasso d’Oro award presents itself today as a permanent multidisciplinary observatory. An evolutionary path that has always interpreted the commitment to building a concrete scale of values ​​for the quality of Italian design in the world”, he commented Luciano Galimberti. The awarded objects and those that received the honorable mention will become part of the permanent collection exhibited in the presence of theAdi design museum.
