The Vignola flag flies at the European Judo Kata Championships which took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Two athletes from Vignola from the Ki Oshi gym were called up to the national team. The big shot was scored by Syria Quartieri who with her uke Anna Demola (Yama Dojo Bologna) won the gold medal for the Ju no Kata Juniores. The two young Italians, led by maestro Cesare Amorosi, prevailed over the second and third-placed Spanish and Polish couples respectively.

Syria and Anna (born in 2005) performed a high-profile kata, improving by more than 10 points the score of the French women who triumphed in the last edition. “It was a very complicated period – explains Syria Quartieri – it was not easy to coordinate six weekly training sessions with preparation for the final exam, but the joy of climbing to the top step of the podium in such an important competition repays us all the efforts made in the last two years”.

Great satisfaction from the president of Ki Oshi Antonio Guarro and the technical manager of the judo sector Fabio Quartieri, father and coach of the two Italian judokas.

Less fortunate was the performance of Alessio Quartieri paired with Lisa Cesario (Judo Brisighella) who, despite a good performance, finished in eleventh place in the pool in the Katame no kata Seniores, missing the six-way final.

“However, a very good overall performance remains – explains coach Fabio Quartieri – Alessio changed both category and kata and the work with Lisa began in January, in four months they moved up the rankings reaching fourth place in the national ranking list, winning the call-up, unexpected result at the start of the season.” Now the appointment is for the World Championships in Las Vegas.
