KUMANOVO (MACEDONIA) – After years of waiting, a boxer from Lucca returns to win the gold medal of an international tournament. The now veteran of the Italian national team Sasha Mencaroni (Youth 51kg), who took first place in the prestigious Miroslav Petrovic International Tournament in Kumanovo, Macedonia,
Saha also won the award for best boxer of the event.
Giulio Monselesan’s student left with the Italian team in the middle of last week, after a week of retreat in the federal center of Assisi. In Kumanovo, Mencaroni played his first match on Friday 14 June directly in the semi-final against the Romanian Alessandro Kokoran. Great performance from the Lucca native who, appearing much calmer compared to his recent international commitments, clearly prevailed over his opponent.
The final against the Serbian Nicola Makaimovic therefore took place on the afternoon of Saturday 15 June. The script fortunately remained the same as the previous day, with Mencaroni completely in control and able to best express his boxing made up of rapid and precise attacks and the ability to avoid opponents’ attacks.
An exceptional result, which represents the first total triumph for Mencaroni to complete a career with the blue vest that began 4 years ago, in the Schoolboy category. And if from this achievement Mencaroni will be able to draw the confidence that he has lacked on other occasions on international stages, who knows whether even greater satisfactions may come his way in the future.
