TUSCANY – “The reimbursement operation by the Tuscany Region towards flood victims with the first support of 3,000 euros is concluding positively”. This was announced by Eugenio Giani, president of the Region and extraordinary commissioner for the flood emergency of November 2023. “We have arrived at seeing 16.9 million liquidated – he said -, and in the process of liquidation so the bank transfer will arrive directly within hours, another 3.7 million, so we have now exceeded the threshold of 20.5 million compared to the 25 that we have allocated”. Giani explained that “there are still 670 families who are entitled to it but have not sent the IBAN, and for others it is a question of imperfections in the submission of the application”, underlining that “now we begin, through the questions that must be asked through the website, the activation of the platform which will take place at the beginning of next July and which will lead us to distribute those 66 million allocated by the government of which I am executive commissioner, as regards both families and businesses. Of this figure we have around 40 million dedicated to families, the others to businesses: there will be a reimbursement threshold of 5 thousand euros for each family and 20 thousand euros for each business. Families who have already obtained 3 thousand euros from the Region can absolutely take action to obtain the 5 thousand euros that come from the allocation of the legislative decree”.

Today the minister Nello Musumeci proposed making the census of the buried rivers mandatory, and ensuring their reopening where possible. “We have already done the census and it is updated, but we are also aware that huge resources will be needed to be able to deal with a situation of this type” said the councilor for Civil Protection of the Tuscany Region, Monia Monni – and perhaps it will not be enough not even that because where urbanizations have taken hold above the course of these ditches, it is not enough to open them, it is necessary to relocate”. Therefore, added the councilor, “we know where it is possible to intervene to reopen them, and for this we will need resources, but we also know where we must learn to manage them, remembering that it is the responsibility of whoever filled those ditches, that is, the Municipalities”.
