LA SPEZIA – In the La Spezia area, requests for redundancy payments dropped by 60% in the first four months of 2024 compared to 2023.

In fact, from the data provided by the INPS regional observatory for the province of the far east of Liguria, we learn that the authorized hours are 22,513 compared to the 57,338 recorded in the same period of the previous year, with a decrease of over 34 thousand applications.

Considering these data, the mayor of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini comments: “The 60% drop in requests for redundancy payments in the first months of 2024 represents a very positive signal, indicating a growing area from all points of view, full of job opportunities and guarantees of stability, especially considering that already in 2023 the INPS had recorded a 50% decrease in applications for redundancy payments as an annual average.

La Spezia clearly stands out compared to the rest of Liguria, where, unfortunately, applications for redundancy payments have increased. This data further enhances the work carried out by the Administration, in synergy with local companies, bodies and associations, which I thank. Together we strive daily to create new employment opportunities in strategic sectors such as shipping, the defense industry and the port sector, which confirm themselves as driving forces for the local economy. The main yacht and megayacht manufacturing companies are based in La Spezia, supported by the Municipality thanks to the Blue Mile project, which involves investments in infrastructure and has the aim of connecting companies with the University Campus of La Spezia, a hub that offers excellent courses in the nautical field and currently has over 1200 members, where over 90% work before even finishing their studies.

The Defense sector is clearly expanding and companies are investing in the territory with the ambition of growing and hiring new personnel to achieve their objectives. The port is experiencing an important phase of transformation, with the start of work for the electrification of the docks, the construction of the new cruise pier and the arrival of hundreds of thousands of tourists eager to discover the unique beauties of our territory.

These job opportunities attract numerous professionals from other provinces and abroad, leading to a demographic increase that has brought the population to over 94,000 inhabitants. Despite these successes, we recognize that there are many challenges ahead. We will continue to work with determination to consolidate this growth and ensure that the benefits extend as far as possible.”
