The Executive Council of the Fortore Mountain Community approved the Boschivi 2024 fire prevention plan immediately after the meeting with the trade union representatives called to better coordinate the launch of the service and the employment of the workers dedicated to it. Present, in addition to the president and deputy Zaccaria Spina and Giuseppe Addabbo, were Alfonso Iannace for Fai Cisl, Carlo Ceccarelli for Flai Cgil and Angelo Iorio for Uila Uil, the general secretary of the body Nicolina Romano and the Rup of the Agriculture and Forests Pietro Giallonardo.
The participants in the meeting took note of the maximum danger decree issued by the Campania Region, noting, compared to the past, the critical period for the development of fires, the extension until 15 October, and agreed on the fact that a more incisive implementation of the plan requires more resources and that those allocated are small compared to the activities that they would like to implement. It was also noted that the role of mountain authorities has weakened, as they have always been pioneers in the Forest Fire Prevention service in terms of prevention, protection and timely interventions, also because they know the peculiarities of the territory better.
It was unanimously agreed on the opportunity to continue to produce the maximum effort to ensure an efficient service despite the failure to grant further funding, rationalising, optimizing and reserving the right to identify forms of incentives for the operators who will be physically involved in the fire extinguishing service.
There was also total agreement on the prevention work to be carried out, which in past years has made it possible to reduce the number of emergencies, with satisfaction expressed by the members of the table. This year too, three internal DOS (Extinguishing Operations Directors) with qualifications recognized by the Region itself were included among the staff involved. For the prevention campaign, the use of only one team has been planned for each of the three NOEDs (Operational Units of the Delegated Bodies): that of San Bartolomeo in Galdo, that of San Giorgio La Molara and that of Ginestra degli Schiavoni. Supplied to the various NOEDs are Sherpa tankers with a capacity of 15 thousand litres, Baribbi Iveco with a capacity of 20 thousand litres, Ranger Iveco with a capacity of 25 thousand litres, Pick-Up Isuzu, Pick-Up Nissan and Suzuki Vitara plus AIB equipment for individual protection, various equipment and cases first aid. The COED (Delegated Body Operations Center) continues at the headquarters of the Mountain Community in San Bartolomeo in Galdo.
“The table also instructed me – explains President Spina – to request a meeting in the Province of Benevento, with the convocation of all three mountain communities that are located in the Benevento area, to agree on a common action strategy, making sure to unite voices and be heard more incisively in the Region. In fact, we plan to ask for a redetermination of resources to allow us to better organize the forest fire prevention service.”
