Alessandra Canale, the former “good evening lady”, 60 years old, wins her long legal battle against Rai. The state TV will have to compensate the current presenter of Onda Verde and Meteo Sera by paying her 45 thousand euros as image damage. According to the judges, the presenter suffered serious damage to her image between 2006 and 2013, a period during which she was forced into forced inactivity. To the sum of 45 thousand euros, 8 thousand and 830 euros must be added as biological damage.

The sentence

This was established by the Court of Cassation which rejected the appeal brought by Rai to the appeal sentence pronounced in 2022 in which the second instance judges declared illegitimate the attribution to Canale, born Alessandra Pimpinella, of a different role from that of announcer. It was then the Court of Appeal itself that quantified the biological and image damage suffered by the former “Miss Buonsera”. The declaration of inadmissibility of the appeal makes the appeal sentence definitive.

Tears on TV

20 September 2002 was Canale’s last announcement. Crying, the announcer denounces state TV for having ousted her from the role with which she gained notoriety. When she finishes speaking, Canale turns to the general public to greet him: “I love you all.” In 2010 she achieved her first victory: the Supreme Court ruled that Rai must give her back the role of announcer. However, the order of the judges in Piazza Cavour remains in fact disregarded. Another tug-of-war with state TV is inevitable. Which however may not be the last.

The presenter’s post

«After 20 years of suffering, tears and bitterness I finally got justice: I won! – Canale wrote on her Instagram profile – Now I’m waiting for an adequate role to be recognized for me, as it should be. I sincerely thank my lawyer, lawyer Dell’Aiuto, who perhaps more than anyone else believed in me and my family, especially my son who suffered silently from my desperation. Justice is slow, but it exists. Special thanks go to the President of the Republic for his constant commitment to guaranteeing the rights of all citizens.”
