Genoa, the sidewalk on Corso Europa collapses, protests flare up

Genoa – The protests following the collapse of the sidewalk in Corso Europa which suddenly swallowed up a woman and her child do not subside. Residents and committees are asking the Municipality for answers on city maintenance and on the interventions that will be arranged to ascertain the state and safety conditions of the rest of the structure which has long presented disturbing signs and an urgent need for restoration and safety works.
Fortunately the woman and her little daughter will get away with some abrasions and a big scare but the responses that the Municipality is providing in the face of an unfortunate episode which should trigger timely checks on the entire Corso Europa structure and beyond are causing great perplexity. the 10 meters of pavement in the collapsed section.
In fact, problems have been reported for some time on the overpasses and on the pavement which has cracks and deterioration in several places.
Complicating the situation are reports made on several occasions about maintenance problems and cracks that worry residents
The pavement has already collapsed several times and the overpasses seem to be falling to pieces and not only metaphorically but the most serious episode of all, in Nervi, triggered a ban on the passage of heavy vehicles on the overpass that leads to via Donato Somma. After repeated reports, a deep fracture was discovered in one of the “shoulders” of the overpass.
In recent months, checks and repairs have been carried out on the overpass that crosses the Sturla stream
In the Quarto area there were also reports in the overpass overlooking Via Antica Romana di Quarto from which pieces of concrete often detached and the “reinforcement” irons of the reinforced concrete appear corroded by water infiltration.
Reports made on several occasions by residents and citizens passing through and which are now being dismissed with disconcerting explanations from those responsible for the safety of all Genoese people.
