Summer camp costs are increasing in 2024

With the arrival of summer, summer camps can be an excellent solution, but costs are increasing in 2024: here’s the detail.

With the school closuresmillions of families have decided to use the services of summer centres.
In Italy, in fact, schools close for a year 12 week periodcompared to 6-8 in Germany, France and the United Kingdom.

The problem, however, lies in the increasing costs: the figures, in fact, are around 1200 euros for a child and 2300 euros if a little brother or sister is added. This is a trend that now affects our country for years and which shows no signs of stopping.

We are talking about an often unsustainable cost for a family, which can create quite a few problems in the summer period.

Here’s what happens.

Summer camps: costs increasing for 2024

According to a recent report from theEures Economic and Social Research Institute and of theAssociation for the defense of consumer orientation, summer camp prices are increasing this year.

The survey analyzed the prices of the summer centers of five cities: Rome, Milan, Bologna, Naples and Bari.
Compared to 2023, a average increase of 10%. But there are also cost differences at a geographical level.

According to the report, the summer centers in Northern Italy are the most expensivewith an average cost of 175 euros full time for a week, compared to 148 euros in the Center and 118 euros in the South.
Milan it is certainly the most expensive city, where prices are around 218 euros (which drop to 176 euros for reduced hours): a cost that is practically doubled compared to other cities, such as Bari and Naples.

Summer camps represent a useful alternative for leaving your children after schools close. In fact, not everyone can count on the support of grandparents or babysitters.
But such high (and often unjustified) costs risk making these services unaffordable for many families.

As stated by Anna Rheapresident of Adoc:

“The costs of summer centers are too high, unjustified and often unaffordable for most parents. All this is aggravated by the long period of school closures. A problem that arises every year and which weighs exclusively on parents, in particular on those who both work, are without the support of their family of origin or where the load is supported only by the mothers”.
