The news was spread by the Ansa agency shortly before midday, confirming a mountain accident occurred in the Alps with one death toll: it would be an expert mountaineer from Vicenza whose identity remains confidential for the moment.
The fall beautiful emptiness, for further 300 metersoccurred on Mount Gran Paradiso in the early hours of today’s morning, with an alert to 118 and the Valle d’Aosta Alpine Rescue Service given by a group of roped climbers who apparently witnessed the terrible scene.
The climber’s body has already been recovered using a helicopter and transported to Courmayeur, and the family members in Veneto have been informed of the tragedy that occurred to their loved one. Identification operations are underway. The victim apparently was in the company of a friend who was with him facing the ascent phase – the latter remained unharmed – towards the summit of the mountain when the accident occurred, for reasons currently unknown.
The pair of mountaineers had left the Chabod refuge at dawn after spending the night at high altitude. For the moment, no other details are available, pending the pronouncement of the Valle d’Aosta authorities involved in the intervention on Monday morning.
