Daniel Radcliffe won a prestigious award at the Tony Awards ceremony, held in New York.

The “Harry Potter” star won Best Actor in a Musical for his role as Charley Kringas in “Merrily We Roll Along.”

In addition to Radcliffe, the show’s cast also includes Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez, while the music is by Stephen Sondheim.

The musical tells the backward story of three friends, Charlie, Franklin (Groff) and Mary (Mendez): from their disillusioned middle age to their youthful optimism, when they meet for the first time on the roof of a New York apartment building.

Radcliffe made his Broadway debut in 2008 as Alan Strang in “Equus.” Shortly afterwards he returned to the stage to play J Pierrepont Finch in «How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying» and Jim in «The Lifespan of a Fact».

Thanks to «Merrily We Roll Along», the British actor won his first career Tony Award, beating other stars such as Roger Bart (Back To The Future), Joshua Boone (The Outsiders), Brandon Victor Dixon (Hell’s Kitchen ), Sky Lakota-Lynch (The Outsiders), and Steven Skybell (Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club).
