PERUGIA – The Magnifico Rione di Porta Sole won The Palio of the ninth edition of Perugia1416 with 68 points. He took second place Porta San Pietro with 65at the third Porta Sant’Angelo with 64in the fourth Porta Eburnea with 56 and the fifth Porta Santa Susanna with 45.
Perugia1416, the 2024 Palio was won by the Magnificent District of Porta SoleYesterday the Grand Corteo was won by Porta San Pietro, coming first in front of Porta Sole, Porta Sant’Angelo, Porta Santa Susanna and Porta Eburnea. While the Drape Race, the third and final sporting event, was won by Porta Sant’Angelo followed by Porta Eburnea, Porta Sole, Porta Santa Susanna and Porta San Pietro.
The winner was proclaimed by Braccio Fortebracci who, on the staircase of Palazzo dei Priori, made the final speech and placed the solemn chain with medal (a white griffin on a red field, already in 1416) around the neck of the Captain of the Porta Sole district. and still today the coat of arms of Perugia). The Palio of victory was also delivered to the Consul of Porta Sole, which bears the signature of Maria Serena Colombo, a student at the “Pietro Vannucci” Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia (the winner of the “Artist’s Palio” competition).
Also present was a delegation from the Compagnia Rosso d’Aquila from L’Aquila who, before the winner was announced, brought a tribute to Braccio as a sign of reconciliation between the two cities, on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the leader’s death. Accompanying her was the Councilor for Social Policies of L’Aquila, Manuela Tursini with the city’s banner.

ROLL OF HONOR
The Palio was won three times in previous editions by Porta Santa Susanna (2016, 2017, 2019); once since Sun Gate (2018), from Porta Sant’Angelo (2022) and since Porta Eburnea (2023). Symbolically, as it was not contested due to the pandemic, in 2020 it was donated to the city of Perugia, and in 2021 to the economic operators of the historic centre.
NOVELTY
A note of color on the final day was the presence of Italian-Argentine opera singer, Haydée Dabusti, who marched in the Braccio procession alongside the president of the Perugia1416 association Teresa Severini. The artist, who came to Perugia precisely for this occasion, on Monday 17 June, at 6 pm in the Aula Magna of the University for Foreigners of Perugia, he will hold a concert in honor of Perugia1416. She will perform, accompanied on the piano by maestro Stefano Ragni, a series of great Italian arias. After the performance Dabusti will be awarded the title of “Ambassador of Perugia1416 abroad” for the year 2024.
