Following the explosion that occurred during the night at the Serino post office, where unknown persons detonated a bomb placed at the post office, Mayor Vito Pelosi issued an urgent order.
The event raised concerns about the possible presence of asbestos in the structure, built with panels containing this dangerous material.
Union order: closure of windows and doors within 500 meters
Given the concrete possibility that the situation represents a serious danger to public health, as highlighted by ARPAC, the mayor orders residents within a radius of 500 meters from the Sala Fontanelle area to:
- Keep windows, balconies and doors of homes closed
- Avoid exposure to outside air until further notice
The ordinance is valid from 16 June 2024 until the results of the analyzes of asbestos fibers carried out by ARPAC are available.
Community implications and concerns
The accident not only caused extensive damage to the post office, rendering it unusable for the next few days, but also raised serious environmental and public health concerns. The potential spread of asbestos particles represents a significant threat, underlining the need for stringent preventative measures.
The community is invited to carefully follow the provisions to ensure the safety and health of all residents. Further updates will be communicated as new data from ARPAC becomes available.
