The not exactly summer weather conditions (the situation should, however, improve over the next few hours) have influenced, but not much, the outcome of the first day of the Feast of San Giovanni inaugurated yesterday in Oneglia and scheduled every day until Tuesday 25 June in its new location: at the Aicardi ocean dock, at the root of the short pier.
Hundreds stormed the stands, both the exhibition and commercial ones of the MercantIneja event, now in its 16th year of life and which again today, from 5.30 pm, is preparing to host customers and the curious, as well as the gastronomic ones, a real “gem” ” of the Feast of San Giovanni, where the chefs of Ineja Food work very actively.
From the galley they report that the most requested product last night was fish: after all, it was Friday and what better occasion than to start this exciting “12 days” by enjoying the traditional Onegliese stockfish (an ancient recipe from Borgo Peri) or the fried calamari is always appreciated, if not a fragrant plate of fried anchovies or mussels marinara style?
The fact is that the first day of the Feast of San Giovanni ended with a positive result. It opened yesterday afternoon with the traditional “ribbon cutting” which was attended, together with the representatives and the president of the San Giovanni e Tradizioni Onegliesi Committee, by the Mayor of Imperia, Claudio Scajola, surrounded by other political exponents local authorities, as well as by military and ecclesiastical authorities.
After the inaugural ceremony, the event immediately got underway, offering an evening full of events and shows.
This evening it will be repeated. Among the curiosities on the programme, the presence, at the entrance of the String Quartet Festival “Orchestra della Riviera dei Fiori Note Libere” of the City of Sanremo Music School Association composed this evening by Anna Odobaschi, Umberto Bianchi, Giuseppe Bianchi and Filippo Odobaschi.

Saturday 15 June
5.30 pm: Le MusE Festival, monologue by L. De Flaviis taken from “Cicatrici” (culture tent);
7.00 pm: opening of Info point – Italian Red Cross garrison; Zucchetta fishing (entertainment area); opening of cash desks – news and music from Radio Ineja 2024;
7.00 pm: exhibition “Memories and testimonies of the celebration” (culture tent); musical welcome string quartet orchestra Note Libere (entry to the party); recreational-sports activity proposed by the Imperia Rugby ASD (sports space);
7.30 pm: food stands “La cucina del Comuni” traditional dishes: Onegliese-style stockfish, penne all’arrabbiata, spaghetti with pesto, fried calamari, fried anchovies, mussels marinara style, cundijun, grilled meats, wines from territory;
8.30 pm: Latin evening musical entertainment with DJ Junior Biscochito (performance area);
9.00 pm: “Chelli du Gumbu de Chichen” with Natalino Trincheri narrating voice (performance area);
10.30 pm: “Dance show” sports dance proposed by the ASD Imperia Dance by Debora Paba and “Tropical Beck’s” performance of the Creative Salsa school by maestro R. Amoretti (performance area).
Sunday 16 June
09.00 am: fishing competition with a shore rod in the Pierini category, meeting point along the Oneglia pier, organized by Asd ASNO (free registration and prizes for all participants)
6.00 pm: presentation of the book “Year after year, Imperia a city on the move” by A. Gaibisso Dominici and BM Gandolfo Donatiello, presented by F. Vatteone (culture tent)
6.30 pm: recreational and sporting activities proposed by the ASD Petanque Pontedassio (sports area)
7.00 pm: exhibition “memories and testimonies of the party” (culture tent) musical welcome string quartet orchestra Note Libere (entry to the party)
8.00 pm: performances of smooth dance and standard dances of the Studio Danze Imperia school of the masters S. Tarasco and A. Anastasia (performance area)
9.00 pm: musical and dancing evening with the “Sorrisi e Musica” orchestra
10.30 pm: performances of smooth dance and standard dances by the Studio Danze Imperia school, followed by free dancing (performance area)
