Surveillance at Lecciona: Fire Brigade at sea and Civil Protection on the beach

VIAREGGIO – The maritime patrol of the Fire Brigade begins today: a service extended by a month given the good numbers of last year. But the news is the return of ground surveillance to Lecciona.

Patrolling at sea returns (and extends) and surveillance on land makes its debut. For Lecciona – three km of free beach left for many years without any control service – it will therefore be a safer summer. Interventions at sea are guaranteed by the Fire Brigade who have renewed, for the second consecutive year, the presence of rubber boats and divers who will act in case of critical situations in Lecciona, precisely, and on the rest of the Viareggio beach. A service – coordinated by the Capitaneria and Prefecture – wanted by the administration which, after: last year gave good results, so much so that this year it is extended by a month: from 15 June to 15 September.

But the real news, announced by councilor Meciani, is ground surveillance. These are not lifeguards, it must be clarified, but personnel from the municipal Civil Protection who will monitor the entire beach, even in the area behind the dunes. A service entrusted on Friday by the council at a cost of 20 thousand euros.
