He was on a dinghy with a girl when for reasons yet to be ascertained it crashed on the rocks in the waters between Isola Madre and Santo Stefano Island in La Maddalena. This is how Pietro Stipa died: he was 26 years old and an officer in the Navy.
He was called Pietro Stipa and it was a Navy officer the young man who lost his life last night when his dinghy hit the rocks in the waters of the La Maddalena archipelago. A Tuscan originally from Argentario, the victim of the accident at sea was just 26 years old.
Stipa belonged to the SDAI unit (Demining and defense against treacherous vehicles) based on the island. The young man was considered a seaman with experience and above all with an in-depth knowledge of the places in the archipelago precisely for his work. During his time at the Naval Academy, the young man had also participated in the 52nd “Las Anclas” Trophy in Spain, a sailing event which saw the participation of several international naval academies.
According to an initial reconstruction by the Coast Guard, the fatal accident occurred around 4 in the night between Friday and Saturday, when the young man decided to take a dinghy ride with his girlfriend who lives in La Maddalena. After a few minutes of navigation, for reasons yet to be ascertained, the vessel ended up on the rocks emerging in front of the island of Santo Stefano.

Unfortunately for Pietro Stipa there was nothing that could be done: the impact with the rocks was fatal. The boy, thrown from the dinghy, hit his head on the rocks, losing consciousness and ending up in the sea. A Coast Guard patrol boat arrived at the scene of the accident a few minutes after the alarm was raised and found the girl who was with the victim alone. She was in shock but fortunately saved.
It was then she who told the Captain’s Office soldiers that the 26-year-old was also on board the dinghy with her. The search for the missing man continued for about an hour, in the end the body was recovered at dawn today on the seabed.
In all likelihood, the dramatic accident was caused by some outcropping rocks that were not seen, but the exact dynamics of the crash are being ascertained.
