«If the law passes we will all close»

In Fvg there are some entities that look with apprehension at the provision that could ban the cultivation, distribution and trade of the inflorescence of the light cannabis, i.e. low in THC, thus calling into question sales and cultivation companies. The sales points that have since dedicated themselves to these products do not have a specific Ateco code and this makes it difficult to know their number in the region with certainty. The web refers to less than twenty brands, almost equally divided between Trieste And Udine and with presence also at Pordenone And Gorizia. In several cases, however, the formula seems to indicate automatic distribution, also given that it is open 24 hours a day. Instead, they contain Cbd or Cbg, another active ingredient of cannabis, the products that originate from the cultivation of hemp that Green LadyBug has been doing this in Sutrio since 2018. «If that amendment passes we will close», summarizes the legal representative Nicola Tassotto, to clarify the game that is underway.

WORRY

«Right now we are working on a video, also with the presence of doctors and a veterinarian to collect testimonials from people who are using our products with beneficial effects. The intention is to present it to the legislators.” The Sutrio company, as Tassotto explains and the company website specifies, also signed an agreement with the Department of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Messina in February 2023 for scientific collaboration activities for the «evaluation of the effectiveness of supplements based on hemp oil and CBD in clinical models of conditions associated with inflammation and neuroinflammation in companion animals”. The research was also published in Frontiers Media. «During 2024, continues Tassotto, we are expanding our training activity in the veterinary field with the collaboration of experts in various sectors. Another objective is to be able to collaborate with prescribers to extend research and training also in the human field.”

THE DETAILS

The products, oils and extracts contain CBD and CBG, compounds present in the flowers of the cannabis plant, precisely what the amendment wants to prohibit from using. The business began with a plot of 500 square meters, which grew year after year to reach the current half hectare. In May, every year, the company plants around 3,500 plants after growing them ten centimeters high in glass vases. When ripe, in September, they reach 2 meters. It is precisely the inflorescence that is collected, dried and sent to a laboratory outside the region to create the products then put on sale. «The mountain climate is ideal for this cultivation – says Tassotto -, for water, heat during growth and the right cold in the last part of maturation». The origin of the amendment was the legislator’s desire to give a clearer and more restrictive interpretation of the law which since 2016 has regulated the cultivation of hemp for industrial use. In 2022 an inter-ministerial decree intervened to limit the marketing of hemp to seeds and their derivatives only, but in 2023 the TAR annulled it, confirming the marketing of all parts of the plant, including the inflorescences and leaves. Now the amendment to the bill being examined by the House intends to try again to prohibit “the import, transfer, processing, distribution, trade, transport, sending, shipment and delivery of hemp inflorescences as well as products containing such inflorescences, including extracts, resins and oils derived therefrom.”
