Fasano – In this June to remember for the territory of Fasano, yesterday, Friday 14, the second day of the G7, was the day that the whole world was waiting for: the arrival of the Holy Father, for the first time at the summit of Heads of State and G7 Government.
Pope Bergoglio, who landed at the “sea view” heliport of the White Houses, was welcomed by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and participated in the meeting on Artificial Intelligence
The “vigorous technological advancement makes artificial intelligence a fascinating and tremendous tool at the same time and requires reflection that is up to the task”, said His Holiness in his 20-minute speech at the table with the world’s leaders at the G7.
Once the work was completed, the Pope dedicated himself to the 10 bilateral meetings scheduled, including the two most anticipated, with Biden and Zelensky.
While the Big 7, the Holy Father and the other Heads of State and Government of the Nations and International Outreach Organizations worked on the issues of Artificial Intelligence, Energy and Africa-Mediterranean, outside the walls of the Borgo Egnazia Resort the delegations admired the Archaeological Museum National Park “Giuseppe Andreassi” and Archaeological Park of Egnazia, to then visit Grottaglie, Alberobello and Martina Franca.
Meanwhile in Fasano it was the day of the feared first demonstration of dissent against the G7.
From the very early hours of the afternoon the town was deserted, only police patrols patrolled the intersections along the route of the demonstration. At 4.30 pm in the Representative Hall of Palazzo di Città the press conference was held to present the “G7 Counter Forum” which presented the seven-point document which dealt with the themes of War, Palestine, Education, Environment and Health, Work, Migration and AI. Once the conference was over, the procession started from Piazza Palmina Martinelli under a scorching sun. The police service put in place by the Brindisi Police Headquarters was impressive, which should have guaranteed safety, but which was of no use, as of the 2.7 km of planned route, the procession only covered a few hundred metres, before stopping in the shade of the trees of Parco della Rimembranza for the final rally.
Today the closing of the G7 works in Borgo Egnazia is scheduled, with the final conference at 2 pm, while at 3 pm there will be the second dissent procession in Fasano, the one organized by the No G7 Coordination Table of Puglia.
