Menopause, prostatic hypertrophy, pelvic and perineal re-education are just some of the topics that were addressed during theinformative scientific meeting “Urogenital pathology in the elderly and non-elderly population”, addressed to citizens, which took place yesterday afternoon in the multipurpose room, on the southern slab, in Vallecrosia.

The large audience present listened carefully to the speakers and also had the opportunity to discuss with various experts in the sector. “It’s a pleasure to see such a large turnout of the public. It is the first satisfaction for any speaker– comments the doctor Elena Lanteri Cravetpresident of Aidm Sanremo, who introduced the meeting – “I thank everyone present and especially the municipality of Vallecrosia which has demonstrated great sensitivity towards an important part of its population. Together with the Le Cinque Torri social centre, the Municipality has, in fact, proposed a whole series of engaging meetings and activities to ensure that interest in an active life is always high. Today’s meeting talks about an extremely important problem: the pelvic floor pathologies”.

“Together we win” – says the deputy mayor of Vallecrosia Marilena Piardi who attended the event together with the councillor Patrizia Biancheri and the city councilor Denis Perrone “There is a set of positive intentions but above all a group of women who, when they come together for a project, carry it forward. I thank the doctor Paola Camia of the ASL1 health district for the presence and the professionals of theItalian Association of Women Doctors of Sanremo because their generosity has no end, dedicateIndeed, their time, free of charge, to provide information for preventive purposes. Also, I would like to say thank you Maria Carla Aprosio, president of the Le Cinque Torri association, because together we organize many initiatives”.

“I am very happy that they are being organized in this area health education events aimed at the population where scientific information can be brought with a foundation so that citizens can have a reference with respect to many issues that sometimes we are a little afraid or ashamed to talk about – says the doctor Paola Camia of the ASL1 health district – “It is important, however, to talk about it because the sooner certain problems are addressed in terms of prevention, the better, to avoid serious problems that affect a very large portion of the population. We often don’t know the real data because we are ashamed to talk about these themes We brought the poster of community nursing service, opened a year ago in the district. They are nurses who go to citizens’ homes and are responsible for helping especially with preventive aspects and work with general practitioners. It is a service that is growing and works with communities“.

“The deputy mayor Marilena Piardi and Maria Carla Aprosio, president of Le Cinque Torri, have become a perfect combination because together they achieve these meetings that are very important since they cover so many topics also related to healthcare and medicine” – underlines the doctor De Chiara conquered on Sunday, general practitioner of the ASL1 talking about the first approach between the general practitioner and the patient afflicted by this type of pathology – “Thanks also go to our president of the women doctors association who tried to encourage us women to come to these meetings to meet the population and explain the scientific part in a simple way. Family doctors had no interlocutors for many years. It is important, as soon as you have a symptom, to tell your GP, without shame, to prevent possible problems in time.”

“We generally see menopause with a negative connotation, a moment in a woman’s life in which she is no longer fertile, which disturbs us greatly but Menopause is not a disease– the doctor highlights Carmen Ferrerigynecologist specialist doctor – “Changes in the menstrual cycle, hot flashes, vaginal and bladder problems are normal, there is no need to be ashamed”.

“Prostatic hypertrophy is a very common benign pathology in mature or elderly men. According to some studies, it is present in 80 percent of men between the ages of 70 and 80. It is, however, the fourth disease most commonly diagnosed among men over age 55” – declares the doctor Maria Rosa Maimone, urologist specialist doctor of the ASL2 – “It is divided into lobes: anterior, median, posterior and two lateral. The posterior lobe, the site of the neoplasm, can be appreciated upon rectal examination. The first pathology is arterial hypertension. The diagnosis of prostate cancer is the PSA dosage and urological examination”.

“I deal with pelvic floor re-education and perineal– says the doctor Chiara Palmero, physiotherapist and expert in pelvic and perineal re-education – “I explain to the women how the pelvic floor undergoes the event of pregnancy and birth and how they can learn to know and use it”.
