Today, soldiers of the Economic-Financial Police Unit of the Financial Police of Naples have carried out an application order for a precautionary measure in prison, issued by the GIP of the Court of Velletri at the request of the local Public Prosecutor’s Office, against a person seriously suspected of crime of drug trafficking, with the aggravating circumstance of the large quantity.
The provision originates from investigations by the GOA Section which, on 13 July 2023, led to the seizure of 96,300 kg. of hashish (divided into 980 blocks, corresponding to 640,227 doses), on the motorway section of the A/1, in a lay-by not far from the motorway toll booth of Colleferro (RM), in the direction Naples. The narcotic was cleverly hidden in the cavities present in the floor, in the doors and in the rear compartment of a modified car, which left Malaga in the direction of Naples, crossing the border at Ventimiglia.
In this circumstance, the driver of the vehicle, resident in the Scampia district of Naples, was arrested flagrantly, subsequently judged with an abbreviated trial and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment as well as a fine of 30 thousand euros.
During the repressive intervention, in addition to the narcotic and the car, the cell phone of the arrested person was seized, whose forensic analysis revealed the involvement of another individual originating from the Campania capital, with functions of relay race aboard a car with a German license plate, identified while it was parked behind the arrested person’s vehicle.
This companion, aged 37, burdened by a criminal record for theft and robbery and formally unemployed, is the recipient of the precautionary measure carried out today.
The provision is a precautionary measure ordered during preliminary investigations, against which appeals are permitted and the recipient is a person subjected to investigations, presumed innocent until a final sentence is reached.
