VEZZA D’ALBA The road accident which took the lives of two German tourists on 17 April in Vezza d’Alba also became a legal case. The Turin review court, with an order that intervenes on a regulatory framework not yet well defined, authorized house arrest in Germany for the suspect, who was driving the car while intoxicated. The man was on his honeymoon in the Langhe and one of the victims was his wife.
According to the Turin judges, the precautionary measure can be carried out in the European Union country where the suspect has his residence. It is noted that the court assessed the fact as “very serious” but, in the meantime, also underlined that the German is already suffering a “natural punishment” due to the suffering caused to him by his own illicit conduct. According to what was reconstructed by the investigations, which are coordinated by the Asti prosecutor’s office, the man lost control of the car while driving at high speed along a provincial road. His blood alcohol level was immediately found to be 1.7 grams per litre, more than three times the permitted limit.
