Canoeing, Samuele Burgo is European champion: gold medal at the European Championships in Szeged

Samuele Burgo from Syracuse won the European speed canoe championship in K2 1000 in Szeged, Hungary paired with Andrea Schera from Palermo. A K2 “made in Sicily” conquered with a time of 3.11, which is also a European record. After the great joy of Matteo Melluzzo’s European title at the European Athletics Championships in Rome 2024, Syracuse sport continues to win medals around the world. Only a few days ago, to the editorial staff of SiracusaOggi.it, Samuele underlined his good form, albeit recovering, after the bone edema of the sacrum which forced him to stay away from canoeing. Despite the stop and the “recovering condition” Samuele won the gold. The silver went to the Hungarian hosts, the couple Szabo and Vajda, while the bronze went to the French Carrè and Hubert.
Tomorrow Samuele will compete in the final in K4 1000, at 4.03 pm, with the Fiamme Gialle quartet completed by Schera, Penato and Lanciotti.
Furthermore, in the semi-final in the K1 1000, Samuele Burgo placed third, winning the third final in the queen distance of K1, which will take place on Sunday 16th at 11.08.
Samuele is ready to win more medals with his newfound excellent form chasing the goal: his second Olympic qualification. Fingers crossed.
