In the first quarter of 2024, according to Istat data, employment in Liguria increased by 2.5% compared to the same period last year (from 612,272 to 627,283 units).

“A higher figure than that of Italy (+1.7%), the North West (+2.1%) and the North East (+0.6%) – explained the interim president of the Region today Liguria Alessandro Piana (Lega) – who confirms the state of health of the Ligurian economy, which is reflected directly and concretely on work.

At the same time, the Ligurian employment rate also rose from 65.4% to 66.3% and unemployment fell, again compared to the same period in 2023, by as much as 13.3%.

Also with regards to unemployment, there was a more marked decline compared to what happens at a national level (-5.9%), in the North West (-4.4%) and in the North East (-7.5%).

Employment in Liguria is growing both for women (+3.7%, +10,051 units) and for men (+1.5%, +4,960 units), and both employed workers are growing (+2.4%, +11,218 units) than the self-employed (+2.6%, +3,794 units). In Liguria, the unemployed decreased, going from 44,867 units in the first quarter of 2023 to 38,911 units in the first quarter of 2024. The Ligurian unemployment rate fell from 6.8% to 5.9%.

Finally, from the mandatory communications it appears that new permanent contracts grew by +2.5% (+294 units) compared to the first quarter of 2023.

“To underline – added the regional councilor for Labor Augusto Sartori (FdI) – the growth of the services sector (+3.6%) and the trade, hotels and restaurants sector, truly relevant for our economic system, which record an encouraging +7.6% in a quarter, the one from January to March, which traditionally was not particularly linked to tourism but which, thanks to seasonal adjustment, is changing face.

Even in the industrial sector, separating the data from the construction sector in which the ‘speculative’ wave due to the 110 bonuses ended, there was growth of 8.3% for a total of 7,152 units.

This confirms the growing confidence of the business world in the future of our region.”
