Giovannini d’oro 2024, here are the people of value

A recognition to four people of value, two of whom left us last year, who have done so much for the city of Monza. Here’s who the 2024 Golden Giovannini are.

The 2024 Golden Giovannini have been chosen

Last night, June 12, 2024, the judging commission chaired by the mayor Paolo Pilotto (and made up of 7 members, including two councillors, one from the majority Giovanna Porro of the Democratic Party and one from the minority Marco Monguzzi from Fratelli d’Italia) has decided the assignments for this year.

Also part of the committee are illustrious people from the city of Monza: Vittorio Biassoni, Rosella Panceri, Emanuele Cirillo, Laura Morasso and Rosanna Meroni.

Without hesitation they chose the people who will receive the city’s highest honor on the occasion of the feast of the Patron Saint which will be held on Monday 24 June 2024 at 12 under the Arenario in Piazza Roma as per tradition after the solemn mass in the Cathedral at 10.30.

The Golden Giovannini 2024

Obtaining the coveted recognition this year will be Monsignor Silvano Provasi, historic archpriest of the Cathedral of Monza who will leave his post in September due to reaching retirement age.

Provasi, who celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of his priestly ordination on Sunday (a surprise party was organized for him for the occasion), was archpriest of Monza for almost twenty years. He was responsible for the restoration and reorganization of the Museum and Treasure of the Cathedral of Monza, which under the management of the Gaiani Foundation has at heart the protection, conservation and enhancement of the extraordinary historical-artistic heritage of the Cathedral. During his mandate, the precious restoration works were also carried out which returned the Zavattari frescoes in the Teodolinda chapel to their ancient splendor. The same attention had also been paid to the long – and expensive – redevelopment works on the majestic façade of the Basilica.

The other awarded

The proposal to award the Golden Giovannino also comes from a huge number of signatures Alexander Colombotireless volunteer of the oratory, who supported the Cag with his commitment and dedicated himself body and soul even to the less fortunate, helping the San Vincenzo.

He is also responsible for the project for sporting inclusion through the YouSport social club association, which creates spaces of inclusion for people with fragility.

Two awards in memory

This year there will be two people who will receive the memorial recognition. Fulvia Antonia Tiziania candidacy proposed by Consulta Cederna aimed at giving the right value to a person who has spent so much volunteering in the “Ti do una mano non-profit” associations and in other local entities.

Beloved volunteer born and raised in Cederna, very active in the parish of Sant’Ambrogio, she passed away at the age of 59 after fighting the disease. Illness that she faced head on, with courage.

Together with her husband she was part of the non-profit organization Mani di pace and always together they had helped Syrian refugees.

Monza goodbye to Gianni Pelli

The memory recognition will also go to Gianni Pelli, tireless Gev and civic grandfather, who gave so much to local volunteers. A much loved person, who has been the point of reference for the San Rocco neighborhood for years.

Pelli, who passed away in November 2023 at the age of 83, had always been involved in politics and volunteering (he was also a civic grandfather), and continued his activities until the end.

He was the first president of what would later become the 3rd District, he dedicated himself to safeguarding greenery for the GEVs since 2011 and was “an example of social commitment, working to serve with dedication and generosity”.

Recognition to Abio

Finally, the Corona Ferrea prize, intended for an association, will go to Abio, the association of volunteers for children in hospital which this year also celebrates its 40th birthday and which over the years has become a point of reference for children hospitalized patients and their families.

Abio with its tireless volunteers has brought colour, comfort and a lot of affection to the children who have to go to the hospital every day, to those who are hospitalized and also to the frightened little ones in the emergency room. With their smiles, availability and games made available, Abio volunteers are true angels in the ward.
