A journey to rediscover public transport in Friuli.

The project 1900s by bus. History of public transport in Friuli is curated by the staff of the Ethnographic Museum of Friuli, Civic Museums of Udine. It was created thanks to the support of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia as part of the creation of events and demonstrations aimed at promoting the in-depth study and knowledge of the history of the twentieth century. Other institutional partners wanted to support this museum initiative which recounts 100 years of mobility in Friuli, including the Municipality of Cividale del Friuli, the Municipality of Spilimbergo, the Mountain Community of Carnia, and the Mountain Community of Canal del Ferro and Val Canale.

“The exhibition is a modern project that aims to highlight an important aspect ofevolution of Friulian society, its habits and its organisation. Mobility has been, is and will be a determining factor in the balance and well-being of a constantly evolving population”, commented the Councilor for Culture and Education Federico Pirone. “For this reason – he added – knowing how this has changed in the last century, the century of changes, is one fundamental tool for understanding the direction that the company has taken in the recent past and where it will go in the future. In the rooms of the Ethnographic Museum – explains Pirone finally – you will see not only the past of Friulian public transport, but also how this has changed, moving from fragmentation into micro areas separated from each other, to an overall idea that connected all of Friuli, from the mountains to the sea, from east to west, passing through Udine”.

As an initiative to accompany the exhibition, during the summer the project ‘900 on the bus” will allow all interested parties to savor the taste of a vintage journey in all respects, in collaboration with the inBUSclub APS Association of Muggia which preserves and enhances the vintage buses circulating in the region in the last century. In fact, they are scheduled for the next few months guided tours and trips on vintage buses to discover the historical routes that saw thousands of Friulians travel during the 1900s, such as those in the direction of Lignano, Spilimbergo, Tarvisio and Cividale.
