Arezzo, 12 June 2024 – It took place this morning in the Prefecture, in front of the Prefect of Arezzo, Her Excellency Maddalena De Luca, in the presence of the Police Commissioner Maria Luisa Di Lorenzo, the mayor Alessandro Ghinelli, the delegated municipal councilor Paolo Bertini, the Cultural and Tourist Policies Office and of the Maintenance Office, of the Municipal Police Commander Aldo Poponcini, of the police forces, of the safety manager appointed by the Municipality of Arezzo, ing. Pier Giorgio Secci, of the 118 coordination and of the disaster manager Luca Pancioni, of the rectors of the four districts and of the directing coordinator Enrico Lazzeri, the meeting of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security useful for defining the security measures in view of the Giostra del Saracino on Saturday 22 June and its collateral ceremonies.
The main innovation that emerged from the session, compared to previous editions of the event, is the delivery of the Golden Lance which will once again be awarded to the winning district in front of Grandstand A (Chimet Grandstand). In fact, here there will be a special tribune from which, once the careers of the jousters have concluded and the winner has been announced, the mayor Alessandro Ghinelli will present the trophy dedicated to Giorgio Vasari to the rector of the district.
The Prefect Maddalena De Luca gave the green light to the operation which sees the return of the delivery to Grandstand A after eight years, subject to the recommendation that spectators and extras remain in the seats assigned to them until the moment in which the Lancia d’Oro it will be in the hands of the winning district. The access gates to Piazza Grande, the two sectors for the standing public and the exits of the stands will in fact be manned by security personnel and the police so that there are no disturbances or invasions of the square until it is concluded delivery.
