Montemurlo, rally of historic cars in memory of the flood

Montemurlo (Prato), 12 June 2024 – It will be a weekend dedicated to historic cars with the beginning a LawnFriday, with the passage of One thousand miles and then continue, Sunday 16th, in Montemurlo with the historic car rally organized by Camet (Club Auto e Moto d’Epoca Toscano) with the patronage of the Municipality of Montemurlo. The organization and the Municipality of Montemurlo wanted to give this year’s event a particular significance in memory of the disastrous flood of nine months ago which brought death and very serious damage to the area. Historic cars will be found in Piazza Don Milani for registration procedures and where they will remain exhibited from 9am to 10.30am, free entry. The cars will then depart in the direction of the Cantine Pancrazi and then climb the hills to the Villa del Barone and the Rocca di Montemurlo. They will then parade in the flood locations of 2023, along the Bagnolo stream, the town of Montemurlo and the industrial area, with a “memory journey” that recalls those days. Another important value of the 2024 Montemurlo rally is the demonstration of how it is possible to approach the world of historic motoring even for the disabled. This event is in fact included among the “ASI Solidale – Classical and Accessible” events which makes available historic cars equipped with Guidosimplex devices with the appropriate manual controls for accelerator and brake and the automatic clutch. The cars will then arrive at Agliana in the park of Lake Primo Maggio where they will remain on display until 4pm. Camet, Club Auto e Moto d’Epoca Fiorentino – founded in 1968, is one of the oldest Italian associations of enthusiasts of antique engines and was one of the first clubs to federate with ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) where many of its members have held important positions over the years. Camet is accredited in the third sector as APS (Social Promotion Association). The members of Camet they conserve and take care of, according to a certainly underestimated estimate, around 3,000 historic vehicles (not only cars and motorbikes but also utility and military vehicles), ensuring one of the most prestigious historical and cultural heritage for posterity.
