Italy closes the fourth day of the European Championships in Rome 2024 with two more medals, one gold and one silver, thus rising to 17 in the medal table.
The finest metal comes from the women’s hammer throw platform and bears the signature of Sara Fantini. The daughter of Italian art and record holder, makes her the race with the measurement of 74.18, not an absolute seasonal record. A test of strength from the girl from Fidenza who beats the Polish veteran Wlodarczyk and the French Loga, second and third respectively.
Silver comes in the men’s 200 m with Filippo Tortu. Bitter taste in the mouth for the Olympic champion after the brilliant semi-final. The blue starts very well but in the final straight he loses power and is overtaken by the Swiss Mumenthaler who surprisingly wins the race. The other Swiss Reais closes the podium. Tortu finishes in 20”41. In the final the other Italian Desalu came fifth.
On the day, Molinarolo and Bruni achieved sixth and seventh place respectively in the pole vault. Zoghlami also placed eighth in the 3,000 steeplechase after trying to escape. Fifth place for Sito in the 400 m. No celebrations for Eloisa Coiro, with the Roman eliminated in the 800 meters heat.
At the end of the day, Italy rose to 17 medals divided as follows: 8 gold, 6 Argentine and 3 bronze.
