Martin Truex Jr. had an eventful race at Sonoma. The NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma had some emotional moments with the 2017 champion. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver was involved in several incidents, including a collision on lap 38. As a result, it wasn’t surprising to hear the driver expert express his frustration on team radio.
After being involved in an accident he didn’t want to be involved in, Martin Truex Jr. got a little loose in his complaints about team radio. He used abusive language to express his frustration with traffic in Turn 3. Using this language could lead NASCAR to require him to take sensitivity training, as was done with his former teammate Kyle Busch in 2020. It will be interesting to see how NASCAR handles this situation, considering Truex Jr.’s seniority on the track.
Martin Truex Jr. entered the race at Sonoma as the favorite to win, and lived up to expectations by fighting right from the start. However, as in his previous race at Gateway, his chances were ruined when he ran out of fuel on the penultimate lap. Understandably, he is disappointed with the result.
Once again, the veteran driver missed a great opportunity to end his streak and secure a place in the playoffs. It was a simple miscalculation with the fuel load that lost him the win, and not problems with the car’s performance. He will look forward to returning to Victory Lane in the near future.
