European elections, the results in Liguria: Fratelli d’Italia first party in the photo finish, the Democratic Party “overwhelms” in Genoa

Genoa. In the European elections Fratelli d’Italia confirms itself as the first party in Liguria (26.7%), despite a gap of only 3 thousand votes on the Democratic Party (26.29%). The overtaking occurred during the night, when the counting of all 1,785 sections was completed, even if late in the evening it seemed that the Dems – up 4 percentage points since the last elections – could have the upper hand. There League (8.88%) cannot be overcome by Forza Italia (8.43%), unlike the national result, but here too it is a question of around 3 thousand votes and the decline in support for the Northern League is confirmed. It loses ground 5 Star Movement (10.19%)while theGreen Left Alliance (7.68%) smiles in our region too. The centrists do not exceed the barrier threshold: United States of Europe 3.74%, Stock 3.53%.

Verdicts in the aftermath of an electoral appointment for Liguria, shocked by the investigation into the governor Giovanni Toti, It had very particular implications. The cold numbers, which do not take into account multiple factors, say that today two hypothetical centre-right and centre-left coalitions in Liguria would be almost equal: by adding the votes you get 44.16% for the wide field Pd-Avs-M5s and 44.08% for the centre-right. Obviously, a direct comparison with the regional ones is impossible, where the weight of civic forces is decisive, not to mention the drop in turnout. But two facts seem to emerge: the first is that the judicial storm does not seem to have dented the strength of the parties of the centre-right, the second is that there is a substantial balance between the two poles.

TO Genoa the situation is different. The Democratic party it is clearly the first force with 31.09%continues Brothers of Italy to the 21.56%third place for 5 Star Movement to the 12%, Green Left Alliance to the 9.56%, Forza Italia 6.54%. The collapse of the stands out League (6.33%) while Stock and the United States of Europe are above the threshold (4.43% and 4.11%). The wide field progressive today would be the majority in the city (52.65%)although it is impossible not to remember that the civic lists linked to Bucci two years ago were worth around 30% together. Yet the mayor himself said yesterday that he believed this vote also a judgment on his workdespite all the relevant distinctions.

The results of Liguria, however, are peculiar compared to North West constituency, where Fratelli d’Italia exceeds 30%, the Democratic Party stops at 23% and the League obtains almost 12%. Better result in the constituency than in the region also for Forza Italia (9.38%), but not for the 5 Star Movement (6.73%) and for the Alleanza Verdi Sinistra (7.12%).

At a national level (at the time of writing, around 2 thousand sections out of 61,650 are still missing) it is clear victory for Fratelli d’Italia which exceeds the 2022 result and is close to 30%. “We met here two years ago and it was a beautiful night, for me this is even more beautiful. After two years of government in the worst possible situation” the vote told us “we don’t hope that you are but you are”, says the prime minister Georgie Melons to the party’s electoral committee. But the Democratic Party also rejoices Elly Schlein which rises to 24%: “It is an extraordinary result for us – the secretary rejoices -. We are the party that is growing the most in politics, the distance with Fdi and Giorgia Meloni is narrowing.” Celebrate Forza Italia but not the 5 Star Movementboth around 10% but starting from opposite positions, while the League is on its way to becoming the “third leg” of the centre-right, when five years ago it was over 34%.

The definitive turnout figure in Liguria after the polls closed was 50.61%.lower than the 58.5% of the similar appointment five years ago and compared to the 64.19% of the September 2022 policies. In province of Genoa the turnout for the European elections stopped at 49.35%, quite far from the 56.57% achieved in the 2019 European elections. In Liguria, abstentionism it is more marked than in the rest of the North Westwhere 55.08% of those entitled to vote went to the polls when the complete count was almost over (five years ago it was 63.58%, at the latest elections it was 63.91%).
