Carloforte and the whole of Sardinia mourn the great restaurateur Nicolo Pomata, knight of work, who died suddenly yesterday due to an illness, at the age of 79. He was urgently transferred by air ambulance to the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari but all attempts made to try to keep him alive were in vain. He leaves behind his wife Pina and three children Luigi, Antonello and Maddalena.

«A piece of Carloforte’s history and a master of Sardinian cuisine leaves us. His contagious energy, his engaging ideas, his ability to tell us stories. All this will remain. Thanks Nicolo.»

The mayor of Carloforte, Stefano Rombi, thus remembered Nicolo Pomata, for over half a century, since the end of the 1960s (he opened the restaurant in 1969 which would soon become an obligatory destination for great figures in politics, business, cinema, entertainment), great master of Carloforte cuisine, known throughout the world. The awards and recognitions received cannot be counted.

His passing leaves a huge void but over the years Nicolo Pomata has passed on the secrets of the trade to his children Luigi (well known for his participation in television programs on cooking and for his successful restaurant in Cagliari), Antonello and Maddalena (engaged in the restaurant in Carloforte) who take up his legacy and will certainly carry on the family’s tradition and successes in the restaurant sector.
