Accident in Sistiana, the driver of the Mercedes also died

DUINO The toll of the fatal accident which on the afternoon of Saturday 8 June involved five cars (two of which were parked on the roadside) in the village of Sistiana has worsened. After the sudden death of the Ronchese taxi driver Roberto Burigato54 years old, who lost his life during the night in the Cattinara hospital was also the 70-year-old from Sistiana who caused the accident while driving the Mercedes Gla class: he was the engineer Paolo Ghidini.

The man was hospitalized yesterday under yellow code at Cattinara hospital. His condition, initially stable, progressively worsened over the course of the night. There was nothing that could be done for him: he died during the night in the intensive care unit.

The Mercedes was headed to Trieste, and probably due to the high speed it lost control of the vehicle and invaded the oncoming lane. The head-on impact was violent and left the taxi driver with no escape.

The carabinieri from the Aurisina station and a helicopter from the regional air ambulance immediately intervened on the scene: the health personnel could not help but confirm the death of the taxi driver. Also on site were the 118 paramedics with three ambulances and a medical vehicle, the firefighters who worked for hours to allow the removal of the vehicles, and the traffic police who managed the serious traffic disruption caused by the accident.
