European Athletics Championships 2024: Italy shines on the second day, Jacobs gold in the 100

During the second day of the 2024 European Athletics Championships in Rome, Italy celebrated an extraordinary double in the 100 meters final. Marcell Jacobs took gold with a time of 10.02, while silver went to Chituru Ali. Britain’s Romell Glave took bronze.

Thanks to the Jacobs-Ali double, Italy achieved a total of 9 medals in these European Championships, of which 5 were gold:

Italy also won 4 silver medals:

Chituru Ali (100 metres)

And a bronze with Francesco Fortunato (20 km walk).

Lorenzo Simonelli, a 22-year-old Roman, won the 110 hurdles race with a time of 13″05, the second best time of the year. Leonardo Fabbri won gold in the shot put with a measurement of 22.45 metres. In this competition, the silver went to the Croatian Mihaljevic and the bronze to the Polish Haratyk.

Mattia Furlani won the silver medal in the long jump with a measurement of 8.38 metres, behind the Greek Olympic champion Miltiades Tentoglu (8.65 metres). The bronze was awarded to the Swiss Simon Ehammer (8.31 metres).

Francesco Fortunato, a 29-year-old financier from Puglia, achieved bronze in the 20km race walk, won by Swede Perseus Karlstrom, with Spaniard Paul McGrath taking silver.

The second day of the European Athletics Championships in Rome saw Italy emerge with exceptional performances, adding numerous medals to its palmarès and demonstrating great competitiveness at continental level.
