The polling stations for the European elections have now been set up in almost all the municipalities of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Citizens will be able to go and vote from the afternoon of today (Saturday 8 June) to tomorrow evening (Sunday 9 June). In addition to the appointment for the renewal of the European Parliament, 114 municipalities are also called to express their opinion on the future mayor, of which 14 are in the former province of Gorizia: Capriva, Doberdò, Dolegna, Farra, Gradisca, Grado, Mariano, Medea, Mossa , San Floriano, Savogna d’Isonzo, San Lorenzo Isontino, Staranzano and Turriaco.

Also worth mentioning are the battles at the polls for Aquileia, Terzo di Aquileia, Campolongo-Tapogliano. Chiopris Viscone, San Vito al Torre and Visco. They are all municipalities with a population of less than 15 thousand inhabitants, therefore without a run-off round. Voting operations will take place on Saturday 8 June, from 3pm to 11pm, and Sunday 9 June, from 7am to 11pm. The counting of the municipal elections will begin on Monday 10 June at 2 pm. As regards those entitled to vote in the municipal elections, in the province of Udine there are 202,307, Pordenone 50,739, Gorizia 15,526, Trieste 7,769.

Looking at the European Union consultation, the North-East electoral constituency, which also includes Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Trentino-Alto Adige, elects a total of 15 MEPs. In this context, off-site students domiciled in a municipality in a region other than that of residence will also be able to vote (for a period of at least three months). Those entitled to vote in the province of Gorizia are 114,246, in the rest of the region in Trieste 192,324, in Udine 466,777 and in Pordenone 274,819. There are 151 polling stations set up in the Gorizia area, 612 in the province of Udine, 276 in the province of Trieste and 319 in the province of Pordenone.

The mayor and city council will vote on a single orange ballot. Above will be the name and surname of the mayor and the marks of the lists flanked by the lines to express the two preference votes for councilor candidates of different genders (double gender preference). The voter will be able to cast his vote with three options: only for the candidate for mayor (the vote is considered attributed only to the candidate for mayor); for a list linked to the mayoral candidate (also voting in favor of the aspiring mayor); for one or two councilor candidates by expressing their preferences in the appropriate spaces on the ballot paper.

The preferential vote is expressed by writing the surname, or the name and surname, of a candidate for the office of municipal councilor included in the list for which one intends to vote. The second preference must be expressed in favor of a candidate of the other gender included in the same list. The vote is also considered to be attributed to the list and to the connected mayoral candidate. As regards the European elections, however, up to three preferences can be indicated, but always respecting the gender difference: there cannot be three men’s names or three women’s names, otherwise only the first name indicated will be validated.
