CELLINO SAN MARCO – Dismay in Cellino San Marco over the untimely death of 21-year-old Erika Rezza, who died shortly after midday today, Saturday 8 June, due to a road accident on the coastal road north of Brindisi. The girl, who worked in a bar in the Commenda district of Brindisi, was traveling towards Apani in her Lancia Musa, together with a friend of hers two years older than her. At Lido Santa Lucia, for reasons still under investigation, the car ended up in a surrounding reed thicket, the young driver was thrown out of the passenger compartment and was crushed by her own car. She died instantly. Fortunately, her friend did not suffer any worrying consequences. In addition to the 118 health workers, who were unable to do anything to save the 21-year-old from death, firefighters and local police officers went to the scene to reconstruct the dynamics. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The road remained closed to traffic for the entire duration of the investigations.
The news of the 21-year-old’s death immediately spread around the town where she lived, leaving many breathless. Since the dynamics were clear and there were no other vehicles involved, the public prosecutor on duty did not deem it appropriate to retain the body which was returned to the family a few hours after the tragic accident. The car was seized. His brother went to the scene. The funeral home was set up in the De Blasi Funeral Home, in via Ruffini in Cellino San Marco. Tomorrow at 5pm the last farewell at the only church in the town, San Marco and Santa Caterina.
The mayor of Cellino San Marco, Marco Marra, expressed his condolences and closeness to the family through his Facebook page: “The entire municipal administration and the entire city community mourns Erika’s broken young life and joins in the heartbreaking pain she has affected his parents, his brother and all his relatives”.
