Voting for the European and local elections, in Friuli Venezia Giulia 114 Municipalities up for renewal: polls open from 3pm

From today – Saturday 8 June – at 3pm (Saturday is an unprecedented day in Italy for an electoral round), we will vote, as well as for the European elections, also for the renewal of 114 municipal administrations in Friuli Venezia Giulia, 81 of which in the province of Udine, 16 in that of Pordenone, 14 in that of Gorizia and 3 in that of Trieste.

Tomorrow, Sunday 9 June, polling stations open from 7am to 11pm. The counting for the European elections will follow immediately, while for the Municipal elections we will have to wait until Monday from 2pm.

Municipalities

Porcia, which has almost 15 thousand inhabitants, is the largest town going to the polls in the region. 225 people are running for the position of mayor, most of them men, but there is also a female group, in some cases with an excellent chance of making it. In 28 municipalities there is only one candidate for mayor, practically certain of winning if at least 40% of those entitled to vote go to the polls and if it will be voted by at least 50% of those who go to the polls.

A phenomenon that, over the years, has become more visible and raises more than one question. Because there are not only very peripheral or mountain municipalities, such as Amaro, Ampezzo, Cercivento, Prepotto, Raveo, Resia, Tramonti di Sotto and others where there is only one person willing to wear the tricolor sash, with related duties and honors. This time, and this is unprecedented, there are also important and strategic municipalities from an economic point of view where the political dialectic, for one reason or another, has been reduced to zero.

The most striking cases they are those of San Giovanni al Natisone (6,052 residents), a fundamental center of the Chair Triangle, which sees the candidacy of the outgoing Carlo Pali and Remanzacco (6,064 inhabitants), a manufacturing town on the outskirts of Udine, where the the outgoing Daniela Briz. Another important municipality where there is only one competitor, the former deputy Daniele Moschioni, is Corno di Rosazzo, also in the chair area.

There are three municipalities in the province of Pordenone that have only one candidatenamely Cavasso Nuovo, Tramonti di Sotto and Morsano al Tagliamento, two others in the province of Gorizia, namely Farra d’Isonzo and Mossa.

It’s time to vote, as mentioned, also for the European elections. After months of electoral campaigning, the elections for the new European Parliament will take place on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June. Italy elects 76 parliamentarians, of which 15 in the North East constituency, which it includes Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Trentino Alto Adige and Emilia Romagna: in total there are 9,809,086 voters. The polls will be open today from 3pm to 11pm and tomorrow from 7am to 11pm. And the counting will immediately follow.

The electoral law provides that up to three preferences can be expressed among all the candidates on the chosen list, but it is essential to respect gender alternation. This means that you can simply cross the X on the list you want to vote for, or even indicate two or three preferences: in the first case, a man and a woman; in the second case, two men and a woman or vice versa.

In Friuli Venezia Giulia is the most politically relevant challenge it is the one inside the League, which is still the largest party in the region. The Salvinian current won the congress and is therefore dominant compared to the territorial fringe that recognizes itself in Fedriga. But if the result of the League is not satisfactory, it cannot be ruled out that it will happen the internal uprising to discredit the federal secretary Matteo Salvini. The domino effect could start right from Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia.
