A large brush fire threatened the Tarragon branch of the Federigo Enriques state scientific high school near the Via del Mare between the towns of Acilia and Ostia Antica.

Despite repeated reports made to the owners of a large area of land located between via di Dragoncello and via Franco da Perugia, the flames, fueled by the particularly hot day and the wind coming from the sea, touched the school building and the gymnasium located inside it .
The structure, located in via Andrea da Garessio, It has multipurpose functions and is also used as an afternoon sports centre for local volleyball teams and courses. The air soon became unbreathable due to high columns of smoke and, as feared, finally occurred: the uncultivated field caught fire.
To prevent the fire from spreading dangerously towards the building, where neither the students nor its regular visitors were present, they intervened the Ostia firefighters with team 13A they men of the Eur detachment with the 11A. About ten men supported the two APS (tank fire engines) who worked incessantly from 4.40pm until 8.30pm this afternoon, Thursday 6 June, to extinguish the flames.
The intervention was resolved successfully, but the tongues of fire, quickly pushed towards the part still occupied by the tall grass, nestled in such an intricate tangle as to force the two fire brigade units to make a considerable effort to avoid potential dangers to the high school and surrounding homes.
