Brussels, 6 June 2024 – “After having increased interest rates 11 consecutive times, causing the doubling of mortgage installments for millions of Italian families, the ECB is now presenting itself a day before the vote with a ridiculous reduction of just 18 euros per instalment. It is an insult to citizens and voters, an attempt to mock public opinion with help that is not such.”
This was stated by the Northern League MEP Angelo Ciocca on the sidelines of today’s meeting of the ECB board on the first interest rate cut after months of continuous increases. Ciocca, known for his battles against Lagarde, which cost him a fine and a suspension for having shown, in one of the last plenaries, a noose to the President of the ECB for having suffocated citizens and businesses with his policies, does not stop in his struggle.
“The ECB strangled citizens with 11 rate increases that doubled mortgage repayments,” Ciocca continues. “Now, one day before the vote, he is offering us a ridiculous discount of 18 euros, almost as if he were making fun of us. It is an insult to our intelligence and our dignity as voters. On 8 and 9 June, let’s revolutionize this Europe!”
