Three hundred garages in the block of via Pininfarina 20 in Moncalieri were declared unusable by the firefighters, who issued an order to the administrator to “close and prohibit free access to the rooms of the entire portion of the underground building, thus avoiding the possibility of dangers for users of the boxes and also safeguarding the safety of users of the spaces and areas above”. All this after the fire three days ago which sent one of these boxes, full of household goods, up in smoke.

The garage in question, in two underground floors, has around 300 garages, many of which are occupied by homeless people, who have become a receptacle for waste, including dangerous waste, and household goods of all kinds. For this reason, in order to prevent access, the emergency exits and ventilation openings have been closed over time, furthermore the fire prevention systems and equipment are compromised by vandalism and neglect. The operations to put out the fire the other evening proved particularly difficult, due to the thick smoke that accumulated due to the lack of evacuation openings. Therefore, the use of the garage by the few people who still use it to park their cars turns out to be very dangerous. A public safety problem that is not present today, but for years the building has essentially been a free zone. So much so that the old administrator abandoned all responsibility even following threats, because he wanted to restore order in those garages.
