Flood, Giani in Montemurlo announces the arrival of the 67 million allocated two months ago by the government

The president of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani, met the citizens and businesses affected by the floods of Montemurlo this afternoon at the Sala Banti theaterone of the most affected areas in Tuscany following the flood of November 2nd. President Giani announced important news on the refreshment front. Just today the advance payment of 67 million euros arrived in the Region, allocated by a law decree adopted three months ago by the government, money which, due to a bureaucratic problem in drafting the text, they were stopped in Rome and therefore could not be paid out to those entitled to them.

Giani,as flood commissioner in Tuscany, he explained that, after many reminders, thanks to a clarification with Fabrizio Curcio, head of the civil protection departmentwas able to ascertain that the funds did not arrive due to an incomplete drafting of the law which provided for the allocation of 67 million, but did not contain any procedural provisions for what is an extraordinary event and which therefore required the funds to be transferred to the commissioner structure . Giani said that, faced with the reticence to dispose of the liquidity, he had an exchange of words, even polemical, with some parliamentarians, and therefore agreed on the strategy to get out of the impasse, requesting the advance of the funds from the Bank of Italy, with the consent of the Mef.

This morning the funds actually arrived in the Region’s coffers the regional offices are already working to set up the procedures for the concrete provision of refreshments to all those who have suffered damage from the flood and are entitled to it: up to 5 thousand euros are provided for flooded families and up to 20 thousand euros for businesses.

Giani recalled that last December the Tuscany Region managed to obtain 25 million euros from the current budget, money which was used for the first disbursement of the contribution of 3 thousand euros. A procedure that was also useful for carrying out a careful survey of the damageie to proceed more quickly with the disbursement of state funds that are starting to arrive. Of the 25 million allocated by the Region, the president explained that 16 million and 970 thousand euros have already been paid to 6437 families, while 958 requests for a total of 2 are being paid due to the need to complete the applications. million and 874 thousand euros, resources that will arrive by June 15th. 1123 applications remain to be completed, while for 853 requests the Region was unable to provide the contribution because the beneficiary’s IBAN was missing. «I am confident that by mid-July the Tuscany Region will be able to provide an initial response to around 10 thousand people who have suffered damage from the flood. – said Giani- In this way, not only have we given an initial response, but we have identified “accordingly” the people who have suffered damage, data that we need to speed up the procedure for the national fund that arrived this morning. For those 6,437 applications in which everything went well, we will begin shortly with the liquidation and probably, given that it is an advance payment, we will initially disburse 2,500 euros. The contribution can be combined with that of 3 thousand euros.”

The mayor of Montemurlo opened the meeting and reminded Giani how Montemurlo is among the areas most affected by the flood with the Javello rain gauge which recorded 190 mm of rain in just a few hours during the night between 2nd and 3rd November with terrible consequences on the territory. The mayor reiterated the need to quickly obtain more important resources from the State than those received to date for post-flood damage. The mayor then forcefully affirmed the need for an environmental mitigation plan to be created at a national level which, in a region so affected by Tuscany, is necessary to change through structural interventions the territory’s response to extraordinary events of the magnitude of the flood of 2 last November. The Municipality has hypothesized environmental mitigation interventions on its territory for over 40 million euros, not counting the post-flood emergency sums already activated for a value of 10 million euros. The mayor hoped that there will soon be a national environmental mitigation plan so that the projects can be built, implemented and fully achievable.
