A mountaineer from Piacenza, Luca Bernini, aged 35, died in a mountain accident on the Matterhorn.

He fell from the east face while he was skiing down, probably due to a slip.

The victim was an instructor of the Italian Alpine Club of Piacenza. The body was recovered by Air Zermatt. The investigation into the incident is entrusted to the Sion Cantonal Police.

Tomas Franchini, mountaineer missing in the Andes, has died

The body of Tomas Franchini, the 35-year-old mountaineer from Madonna di Campiglio who had been missing since Sunday morning, was found during the night. Franchini was climbing the Cashan peak, in the Andes mountain range, in northern Peru, together with another Chilean mountaineer, as his brother Silvestro Franchini reported to ANSA.

Among his numerous feats, the Trentino mountaineer climbed Mount Edgar, in the Sichuan region of China in 2017, obtained two nominations for the Piolet d’Or and won the “Paolo Consiglio” award from the Italian Academic Alpine Club twice: the first in 2014 for the ascent of Cerro Rincon and the second in 2017 for the “Kishtwar Shivling 2016” expedition, in Indian Kashmir. “You lived a short time, but you left your mark. In the mountains you were the best of all, by a margin”, says brother Silvestro.
