The streets, urban and extra-urban, of our country are increasingly bloodied. Every weekend the usual dramatic script: many young human lives shattered, with a budget that is a real war bulletin.
A distraction, failure to respect the speed limits, a risky overtaking, the imprudence of getting behind the wheel after having exaggerated a little too much or, worse, after having used narcotic substances and many young lives are tragically extinguished between the wreckage and carcasses of their cars.
“The whole world is a country”, says a popular proverb which is never so true when it comes to accidents with a dramatic epilogue: in fact, the road victim is also a champion with a glorious past in the Bel Paese so much so that he also boasts the conquest of an Italian Cup.
Yet another mourning, therefore, for Italian sport which unfortunately now makes its many fans shed more tears of pain than joy.
Basketball, Dinamo Sassari in mourning: Drew Gordon has tragically died
Flags listed in mourning in Italian basketball for the tragic death, at just 33 years old, of Drew Gordon, former winger of Dinamo Sassari and brother of Aaron, NBA champion with the Denver Nuggets. The 33-year-old, as announced by agent Calvin Andrews, died in a car accident in Portland, Oregon, a north-western state in the USA.
Drew Gordon was a protagonist of the tricolor ball in the ranks of Dinamo Sassari with whose colors in the 2013-14 season, as already mentioned, won the Italian Cupbeating Mens Sana Siena in the final, and reached the round of 16 of the Eurocup (KO against Alba Berlin) and above all the championship semi-final, lost against future champions Olimpia Milano, under coach Meo Sacchetti.
Therefore, a career full of satisfactions, that of Drew Gordon, which began at UCLA, then the transfer to New Mexico. Despite playing for the Dallas Mavs in the Summer League, Drew was not selected in the 2012 NBA Draft where he made his debut in 2014 with the Sixers with whom he played his only nine matches among the Stars and Stripes pros with an average of 7.9 minutes on the court .
In the midst of his brief experience in the NBA, the adventure at Partizan Belgrade before signing for Dinamo Sassari and a Turkish stint with Bandirma Banvit. A true globetrotter, Drew Gordon also played in France, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Russia and Japan before retiring in 2023.
But now, as mentioned, a tragic accident puts an end to his young existence, leaving an unbridgeable void in the hearts of his wife Angela and his three children, whose excruciating pain is shared by all the fans.
