Alghero Marathon at Lago di Corsa on Republic Day

It is the traditional event for Sardinian runners on Republic Day. Since 2006, Lake Leni, in Villacidro, has been the setting for the road race named Corsa Lake organized by Asd Olympia Villacidro, Enas and included in the Vivi Verde events promoted by the municipality of Medio Campidano. Nervous route of 11.4km around the artificial dam on the Rio Leni in the Monti Mannu area, full of continuous changes of direction, curves and ups and downs. All immense among the scent of broom and cherry orchards with the lake to the right of the runners. The only straight, at the end of the anti-clockwise lap, is the 800 meter long passage to the finish line above the dam. At the eighteenth edition, 450 runners from all over the island were present at the start. At the same time, a recreational-motor walk “Walking around the lake” was held, open to everyone over the same distance. The initial cool morning and the rain at dawn were replaced by a hot sun which sharply raised temperatures during the running event. The 2024 roll of honor is copy paste with that of twelve months ago. Among the women, Claudia Pinna (Cus Cagliari) from Sangavino achieved success for the eighth time in the Villacidrese race while Claudio Solla (Cagliari Marathon) repeats his success in 2023, preceding Stefano Floris (Atl. E. Sanna Elmas) and Federico Ortu ( Cus Cagliari). Six bluerunners from the Alghero Marathon participated in the Villacidro race which celebrated its coming of age this year. As in 2023, Giuseppe Corda achieved a category podium, third place, among the SM45s. To best celebrate his next birthday which he will celebrate on Wednesday, he gave himself sixteenth position overall in the men’s ranking and an excellent time of 41’32 paced by a pace well below 4’/km. Two weeks ago he was third overall in the first edition of the Millennial Race in Luras in the heart of Gallura, 9km long between asphalt and hilly sections with a difference in altitude of 167 metres. 9 km covered in 35’18 constantly under 4’/km. Also in Luras, among the thousand-year-old olive trees, Palmiro Concas stood out and climbed onto the podium (SM75) in the race organized by Atletica Luras, also repeating himself at CorriNuoro in May and yesterday at Lago di Corsa. Representing the Alghero Marathon, Luigi Ruiu (50’52), Fabio Lo Gerfo (53’53), Walter Trova (57’19) and Gianfranco Nuvoli (59’52) were present in Villacidro. Everyone improved the time recorded in the 2023 edition. In the races on the May calendar, the Alghero club took part in large numbers in the 13km of the Santa Maria la Palma Corre along the perimeter roads of the countryside around the village and with Rossella Manca at the eighth Karalis10Nicola Carboni memorial, between Poetto and Molentargius in a Uisp competition with a high social content organized by the association Insieme against pain and the prevention of oncological diseases, organ donations and pain therapy.
