Nibali, now on leave, moved to Tuscany as a boy, in the province of Pistoia where he grew up as a man and professional athlete

The president of the Tuscany Region presented the Golden Pegasus, the highest honor of the Tuscany Region, to Vincenzo Nibali, a Sicilian Tuscan action cyclist, but also one of the seven cyclists in the world to have won at least one edition of the three Grand Tours, the Vuelta, the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia and one of only four riders with Merckx, Gimondi and Hinault to have won the three Grand Tours and at least two monument classics, Milan-Sanremo and the Giro di Lombardia.

A recognition that comes from a land, Tuscany, which welcomed Nibali when he was still a boy and here he trained as a man and professional athlete, a recognition that rewards the commitment and passion shown by Nibali in this sport. Our region has deep ties with cycling, the greats of this discipline were born or grew up sportingly right here, from Gino Bartali to Fiorenzo Magni, from Alfredo Martini, Franco Ballerini but also Paolo Bettini and Franco Bitossi, up to Giovanni Visconti and Vincenzo Albanese who, like Nibali, are Tuscans by adoption.

The Golden Pegaso to Vincenzo Nibali arrives less than a month before the Tour de France, which on June 29th will have Florence as its Grand Depart with a first stage from the Tuscan capital to Rimini which will be dedicated to Gino Bartali.
