Varese deaf basketball wins the second championship in its history

Seven years after the “first time” – it was 2017 – the ENS Sports Group Varese returns to win the basketball championship dedicated to deaf athletes (FSSI). A deserved success, after the red and whites had come close to the title in previous editions but never achieved the second tricolor in their history.

This time – it was played Rome – however the victory did not escape thanks to a plan that allowed the red and white players to grow and which brought some to Varese new additions also to the national team deaf.

The tricolor path of the team managed by coach Dario Galbiati with Cristian Gnodi and Mauro Dori, it started with the semi-final victory over Genoa and culminated in the title match against PS Romana. Down one point at halftime (26-25) GS ENS moved ahead in the third period (43-38) and in the last quarter managed to repel the Romans’ comeback: the triples by Bukin and Avellino they therefore closed the games in favor of Varese 59-52. Rounding out the party was the title of MVP of the championship awarded to Luca Pirovano.

The victory of the tricolor anticipates Ben’s commitment seven players with the national team deaf, who will be busy in Malaga for the Europeans category between 21 and 29 June. In July the Italian 3 against championship will be played in Brescia but the most important event will be there DIBF Eurocup 2024, the deaf basketball champions’ cup organized precisely in Varese between on November 13th and 16th.
