The flood of May 15th was not enough, in which thirteen families living in a building in Schio, in the province of Vicenza, saw their homes damaged: the little that had been saved was lost with the flooding of May 21st. A solidarity competition has started on the GoFundMe platform to help these people restart after the damage they suffered.

“The basement floors – writes the organizer, Matteo Vitella – were submerged with 2.70 meters of water”. Both the doors of the building in Proe di Sopra and the materials inside, including the cars, must be thrown away.

“The houses – he explains – remain without electricity. The problem is the mud: it infiltrates everywhere and you have to be quick to get rid of it, otherwise it turns to stone. The drains – he continues – do not work, the submersible pumps burn out, professionals must be called to fix and replace the damaged parts”.

“On May 21 – he adds – everything that remained and that had been saved was once again irreparably destroyed”.

“The Municipality helps us with a water pump, but it is not enough – continues Vitella – because to the north of the building there are plowed and newly sown fields, which with the rains bring all the mud back down”.

Various collections have started on the GoFundMe platform to support the population affected by the flood. In Castelnovo, also in the Vicenza area, the homes of a family were completely invaded by water, which seriously damaged the furnishings.

In a few days, 5 thousand euros were raised. The solidarity initiative can be reached at the link https://www.gofundme.com/f/flood-castelnovo-vi-16-May-2024
